Quercus macrocarpa

A deciduous oak tree which grows slowly to a massive size of often 30m high and sometimes 40m with a trunk to 3m diameter. At 20 years old it may only be 6m high. It’s acorns (up to 5cm long) are the largest of the american oaks, hence the species name of macrocarpa, meaning large fruit. It’s new spring leaves are bright green. The wood is often marketed as white oak. Native of North America.
