This tree is famous for the bright red bell-shaped flowers that often cover the whole tree when it is leafless. In NZ the flowering is often only on part of the tree at a time. The leaves are variable, with up to 7 deep lobes. It is deciduous – shedding its leaves after the dry season. Native to the subtropical areas of coastal East Australia where is grows up to 40m, twice as tall than in NZ.
